Saint-Gobain currently owns 54 per cent of automotive glass maker Maharasthra Glass and Agro Ltd and a 26 per cent stake of Atul Glass Industries Ltd. It also holds a 51 per cent stake in Grindwell Norton Ltd, Indias leading abrasives maker. Analysts say Indias per capita consumption of glass is low at 0.3 kg per annum, but is growing at between 10 and 15 per cent annually. Saint-Gobain had a turnover of 102 billion French francs in 1997, the company said in a statement.
