A senior executive of the company, while confirming that talks are being held with Kenwood, said that the negotiations are at a preliminary stage and that a final decision is yet to be taken.

The discussions with the multinational was initiated after a decision by the Videocon management to mark its presence in the various segments of the domestic audio sector with different brands. The Mumbai-based company intends to bring in an internationally popular brand in the top-end segment of the audio market.

Besides, it plans to position its existing Sansui range of products, for which it has a marketing alliance with Sansui of Japan, for the middle level segment including stereo systems.

Videocon has decided to restrict its own brand for the mass segment at the lower end, and according to company sources, might gradually withdraw the brand completely from the audio segment at a later date.

Meanwhile, Videocon International, which manufactures televisions and audio equipments, has postponed the launch of the Toshiba brand of colour televisions by two months.

The Toshiba range was earlier scheduled for a launch this month. However, due to certain technical problems, the company has decided to delay the launch to the end-December period. The company is currently importing moulds and other equipment before it can start the production of the Toshiba products at its manufacturing facilities.

Meanwhile, Videocon has already launched the Bazooka range of television from the Toshiba stable, which according to the company statistics, has notched up significant sales in its segment.
