A Bank representative said the Pakistan leg of the South Asia trip was postponed because of time constraints, with Wolfensohn keen to get an indepth look at each country he visits. He is scheduled to visit India and Nepal in his first trip to the region as president of the multilateral financial institution. The visit to Pakistan is tentatively being rescheduled for early next year.
The postponement comes even as the international financial community is becoming increasingly concerned about Pakistan's economy.
Earlier this week, New York-based credit rating agency Moody's cited Pakistan's precarious balance of payments position as a primary cause for placing the country's rating under review.
