This was the opinion at a workshop organised for a group of graduates by Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Bangalore on Saturday.
Discussing the aspect of 'De-mystifying BPO', leading industry executives like R Mohan, president & CEO, HTMT, Anuradha Rao, HR director at MphasiS BPO besides others impressed upon the students that the industry is here to stay, and is not a bubble and should be considered a serious career option.
Said Mohan: "There are a lot of myths about the BPO sector, that it is a high stress job, it is boring, does not require in-depth knowledge or skills. If you students visit any BPO organisation, you will get to know that besides the vanilla call-centre activities, there is absolute cutting-edge work going on in these organisations."
Giving examples of such work, he said there are a number of BPOs in India who are doing financial modelling which requires high-level of expertise in managing finances besides legal outsourcing, radiology and other work which require a sound knowledge of systems and processes.
Added Rao: "One of the notions about this sector that it is a stressful job. It is, but which job is not stressful these days? The only additional stress in this sector is to a large extent to do with night shifts, which one can get used to with good nutritional support and good counselling."
On the aspect of monotony in the sector, she said this is true of any job and after a certain period of repeated work, there is monotony and one should constantly innovate and look forward to how one can grow in an organisation.
