Amazon Web Services to train 25,000 people on cloud technologies

As it scouts for newer customers in the country after creating the required infrastructure, cloud services provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) is also looking at training more people on using cloud and AWS platform. The company has announced to forge a partnership with state-owned National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to train 25,000 people over two years.

CEO of AWS Andy Jassy, who met Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad here on Wednesday, said the company has launched its first infrastructure region in India where it has multiple data centres and multiple availability zones. After the launch, its existing customers who are able to ride a portion of their applications on AWS will get an opportunity to run the rest of them. Also a number of other businesses who could not run their applications on AWS due to lack of its infrastructure presence, would be able to do so now.

"We could not be more excited with what we are doing in India. Our CEO and founder Jeff Bezos had communicated they we are investing $5 billion in India across e-commerce business as well as AWS business. We employ over 45,000 people here?we had a very big business in India with over 75,000 Indian customers actively using the AWS platform," Jassy said.

"We are not here in India for a couple of years, we are building a long term business that will last over the years," he added.

The CEO of AWS said the company is really committed to partner with customers, companies and public sector agencies, and is also committed to help in training people to be more conversant in cloud technologies.

"We have trained 16,000 people in India on how to use cloud and AWS. We are hopeful that over time, we will train millions of people in the country and we are hopeful that with arrival of AWS infrastructure here, we will be able to help companies and organisations spend less and get more with their technology resources," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said AWS through its MoU with NIELIT intends to train around 25,000 students over the next two years.The students would be provided free access to more than 50 services of AWS programmes such as database services, e-mail services, virtual private connection services, big data services, media services etc.

According to a study by IDC, cloud computing will generate 20 lakh jobs in India. The cloud services are growing rapidly in India and over the next 10-20 years, very few enterprises would consider creating their own IT infrastructure.
