Bharti Enterprises, which also offers telecom services in Seychelles, today announced that it would soon launch next generation 3G services there with an initial investment of Rs (Seychelles) 44 million.

Bharti has been offering telecom services in Seychelles for the last seven years under the brand Airtel Seychelles Ltd, which is owned by Bharti Global, the arm of Bharti Enterprises for overseas operations.

The launch of 3G services will see the telecommunications infrastructure in Seychelles be at par with the most advanced countries in the world, the company said.

This upgrade will open a gateway to broadband internet access, video calling, picture messaging (MMS), data cards, prepaid roaming, advanced billing system and loads of other value added services, the company added. Besides the upgrade, Airtel is adding new base stations to expand its coverage to more islands.

"This is a major landmark for us and underlines our commitment to providing the latest technology and world-class services to our customers," chairman and group managing director, Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Mittal said in a statement.

The new 3G upgrade will also provide fast and more reliable Internet access of up to 384 kbps as against 10 kbps in 2G or 30 KBPS in GPRS, the comapny added.
