Cybernet Software Systems (CSS) group announced that it had acquired Coimbatore-headquartered e-Brahma Technologies, which specialises in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), for an undisclosed sum.

e-Brahma's strengths in the ERP space ties in well with the CSS Group's imminent entry into the packaged play segment, with the implementation of SME ERPs. This acquisition would also mark the group's foray into tier II cities, a company statement said.

The acquisition has been fully funded from internal ccruals. Paramasivam, founder, e-Brahma, will join the group as vice-president (engineering) and G Ramasubramaniam, co-founder of E-brahma, will head the ERP offerings of the CSS group. Both co-founded e-Brahma in July 1999.

Shiva Ramani, co-founder, CSS Group, told Business Standard that e-Brahma's competency in Navision, an enterprise business solution for SMEs and its efficiency as a business solutions partner for Navision, would help CSS group tap business potential in non-Indian markets.

However, he did not divulge the details of the revenue of e-Brahma. The acquisition was purely to acquire competency, he said. "We expect the acquisition to give us a six-month headstart in terms of our entry into the SME ERP segment," he added.

e-Brahma has presence in the private and investment banking domain too. The company has executed several projects for global organisations in the US and Europe.

Its exposure to this domain spans areas like portfolio management, investment planning and data feed routing and management. It has a 25,000 sq ft facility in Coimbatore and employs 50 professionals. The headcount would go up to 250 over the next one year.

"Earlier this year, we indicated our intention to expand into tier II cities. We expect our expansion into Coimbatore to accelerate the employee acquisition growth at SlashSupport, which is currently witnessing a lot of customer traction, both in tech support as well as in the infrastructure management space," said Ramani.

CSS, a US-headquartered IT Services Group with offshore facilities in Chennai, currently employs over 3,500 professionals out of its offshore facilities in Chennai and has plans to increase the headcount to over 6,000 over the next one year.
