International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), is planning to launch VRGeo mobile application by August.

IIIT-H recently launched VRGeo, an open source collaborative technology for mapping geospatial information in India, at the Garuda National Knowledge Networks Partners Meet in Bangalore. The web-based browser is built on cloud computing, and offers location-based search and zoom option.

The technology was conceived and developed by IIIT-H’s Lab for Spatial Informatics and can be used to locate ATMs, bus stops, post offices, police stations, etc. “We are working on the VRGeo mobile application and testing its features. We will launch it for commercial use by the end of next month,” KS Rajan, head, LSI, and principal architect of VRGeo, said.
