Top IT firms Infosys Technologies and Wipro remained closed today due to the nationwide shutdown against the fuel price hike and price rise, while the largest software exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) claimed its business as usual.

Wipro and Infosys have said Monday was declared an off. However, Infosys employees will have to work on Saturday to compensate for the off.

A TCS spokesperson claimed today was no different and there was no holiday at its offices. "It was business as usual at TCS. Transport arrangements were made at some centers and our associates were at work by 6 am. Some of them chose to work from home or at a closest location. The marginal dip in attendance had no impact on our schedules," a TCS spokesperson said.

These three companies account for over the 70 per cent of the country's $50 billion software exports.

The nationwide shutdown has been called by the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left parties, besides a clutch of smaller parties.
