Round 1: Name this application. It's free, pits you against your opponents in real time, has around 220,000 questions from over 400 topics and is dubbed the biggest trivia game in the world. Yes, you guessed it, it's QuizUp.

Developed by Iceland-based Plain Vanilla Games, QuizUp was released for iOS in November 2013 and recently made the jump to Android as well, where it was released on March 6 this year.

What makes this application addictive is its wide range of topics. It has questions on almost everything - from Two and a Half Men to The Rolling Stones, you name it.

Downloading the application is easy, and you can connect to the app by either email or even Facebook or Twitter. The benefit of using either of your social networking accounts is that it automatically lists all your friends from Facebook or Twitter who are using the app. No need to send any invitations; just pick a friend and challenge them to a quiz on any topic.

Every quiz has seven rounds, six normal rounds and one bonus round. You can see your opponents' progress simultaneously, since all the games take place in real time. In case an opponent does not respond to a challenge on time, they can complete the quiz later.

There are options that allow you to add any opponent as a friend, challenge them for a rematch, block them or even chat with them. The more quizzes you win, the more your experience level increases. The app's gaming system uses this experience level to find you an appropriate opponent of similar experience, although you might find yourself facing someone much higher on the experience ladder.

There are, however, a few flaws that might make you squirm at times. The app server times out at times and there are some repetitive questions related to a few topics. Apart from that, there are no such issues with QuizUp.

As of March 24, Google Play Store shows that the application has at least 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 installs. That's an impressive figure, given that QuizUp was released on Android this month only. Remember, you will require Android 4.0.3 and above to install it on a device.

QuizUp has so far garnered rave reviews from users. Go ahead, give it a shot.
