Reliance India Mobile services are now available in 150 towns of Karnataka. This follows the phase II expansion undertaken since December last year.

The initiative will address the communication needs of North Karnataka, says Reliance Infocomm. The important towns like Hubli, Dharwad, Navalgund, Nargund, Kundgol, Ghataprabha, Sambre, Bagalkot, Humnabad, Zalki, Gangawati and Konnur have been covered in the expansion.

In the coming days towns like Ranebennur, Byadagi, Shiggaon, M K Hubli, Kittur and Bagewadi to be covered will provide seamless connectivity on the NH 4. The development will significantly contribute to the socio"economic development of North Karnataka, believes Reliance Infocomm.

The pilgrim places covered include Katil, Gokarna, Saundatti, Basavanabagevadi, Murudeshwar and Krishnarajasagar.

The commercial towns covered include Gangavati, Konnur, Lakshmeshwar, Navalgund, Birur, Kadur, Harapanahalli, Malavalli, Shahpur, Baila Hongal, Chintamani and Mulbagal. All major towns in Raichur and Gulbarga region including Jevargi, Shahpur and Devdurga have been covered.

Reliance Infocomm has embarked on an expansion plan to cover four lakh villages by the year-end. The company's 80,000 km of terabit optic cable network is the backbone of its countrywide expansion and will facilitate unlimited and uninterrupted voice, data and video applications.

The operation touching nearly 65 crore Indians will cover nearly two-thirds of the villages and over 5,700 cities and towns. The expansion involving 8,500 BTS (base transceiver station) towers will also cover 91 per cent of the national highways and 85 per cent of the rail routes.

Reliance Infocomm has received tremendous response from customers and partners where its network under phase 2 has been established.

The CDMA-based network being rolled out as part of the expansion is providing value-added services including its popular R World services wherein customers can access services like News, video downloads of movies and songs apart from R Connect service which enables them to connect to internet at speeds of 144 kbps.

Reliance Infocomm launched its commercial services in May 2003 and currently has 6.62 lakh subscribers in Karnataka and has over one crore subscribers across the country.
