Mumbai-based Yashnanotech, a division of Yash Management & Satellite Limited, is planning to set up a nanotech manufacturing facility in Hyderabad besides one more project in Maharashtra at an initial investment of Rs 50 crore.

The company would also aim at tapping global contract research opportunities in the area of nanotechnology.

The company has entered into agreements with National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, IIT-Mumbai, and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, for the necessary research and technical support for its projects, according to Anurag Gupta, chief executive officer of Yashnanotech.

Nano products, including nano-catalysts, can be potentially used in pharmaceutical, polymer, paint and chemical industries.

"India itself is a huge market for nanotech products as these products are going to replace conventional chemical molecules in various processes," Gupta said, adding that their manufacturing facilities would be directly linked to the global market, both for marketing and also for contract research.

Yash Management & Satellite Limited has recently signed an MoU with UK-based Cientifica Limited for providing services in the field of nanotechnology in India.

"We have entered into a technical, consulting and marketing tie-up in the field of nanotechnology. The global marketing of our products would be taken care of by Cientifica," Gupta told Business Standard.

According to Gupta, the firm is already in touch with the officials of Andhra Pradesh government for land and other requirements for setting up the plant. The plant would be highly automated and manned by 20-25 professionals in the initial stages.

As far as the second manufacturing plant in Maharashtra is concerned, the company is yet to decide on the location. The plant would either come up near IIT-Mumbai or in Pune, Gupta said.
