At what rate should you withdraw money from your retirement corpus so as not to exhaust it prematurely? For a long time, financial planners in India have used the rule of thumb of 4%. But according to a recent study titled ‘Balancing Acts: Safe withdrawal rates in the Indian context’, the rate for India should be lower. The co-authors of this paper, Rajan Raju, director, Invespar, and Ravi Saraogi, co-founder, Samasthiti Advisors, spoke to Sanjay Kumar Singh, Associate Editor, Business Standard, on the key findings of their study and the implications for retirees.
