India's scenario for Paris Olympics qualification

Following a 2-2 draw in regulation time, the Indian women's hockey team lost 4-3 in a shootout to Germany, meaning they are still one win away from qualifying for the Olympics in Paris. India will now play Japan on Friday night in the third-place playoff.

 

In the meantime, the USA defeated Japan 2-1 to advance to the final and earn a spot in the Paris Olympics.

Once more, Stapenhorst scores an amazing goal! India has three minutes to find an equalizer after this long pass into the circle is stolen by Stapenhorst, who makes no mistake in belting it past Savita.

Fourth quarter: India saves a penalty corner

51st minute: India defends a penalty corner. And then, directly down the opposite end, India. When Baljeet attempts to shoot, Lalremsiami blocks it with little force, but she is pushed aside by a few German defenders.

End of third quarter: Germany outplay India

45th minute: GERMANY MISSES OUT ON A BEAUTYFUL CHANCE! A clean trap would have given Stapenhorst an open goal to shoot at, but she misses it. Stapenhorst does fantastically on the end line and then cuts it back wonderfully towards Lorenz, who skews her shot wide. Baljeet, whose duty it was to remain with Stapenhorst, has Savita in a rage.

It was reverse of what has happened in the first half. All Germany attack in the third quarter. Though Germany failed to break the deadlock.

Third quarter begins with nothing to seperate between the two teams. Germany faltered in the midfield during the first half.

2nd quarter: Germany score the equaliser

27th minute: GOAAALLLLLL.... Germany score the equaliser against the run of play. India were dominatiing in the mid-field but a loose ball at the top of circle allow the Germans to level the score.

After selling Udita a sensational dummy, Charlotte Stapenhorst waits for Savita to fall and simply dumps it over her. That's proper individual brilliance, but Germany seemed to be lacking ideas on how to subdue India, so they needed that spurt of inspiration.

2nd quarter: India outclassing Germans in the mid-field

19th minute: Sangita is playing some brilliant hockey. She ekes out the ball from German defender twice when they are pressing. However, on both occassion India fail to double the lead.

On the line, Neha's shot is blocked. Sangita is hindered, and they had a chance to use a PC, but German defender finds the foot of Indian attacker.

15th minute: Neha earned a penalty corner for India in the last minute of the first quarter. Deepika's fiery drag flick gives India 1-0 lead.

India had some impressive turns against the run the of play. However, their attack was thwarted before ball reached the German's circle.

India's road to the semifinal in FIH Olympics Qualifier

India started their FIH Olympics qualifier on a disappointing note. USA defeated India 2-0. Indian women's team, though, made a superb comeback, winning the next two games against New Zealand and Italy. 

The Indians bounced back from a 0-1 loss to USA in their tournament-opener to outclass New Zealand and Italy to seal their semifinal spot as the second-placed team from Pool B.

 

It was a near-perfect performance in the last two matches with all departments clicking in unison and the Savita Punia-led side would look to continue the same way in the business end of the tournament.
