Lewis Hamilton won his first race since joining Ferrari two years ago while Formula 1 leader Kimi Antonelli broke down at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix on Sunday. Hamilton increased his record win haul to 106 career victories with his first since the Belgian GP in July 2024 while he was still with Mercedes. The seven-time world champion took advantage of fresher tires and a superior pitstop strategy by Ferrari to overtake the pole-sitting George Russell, who finished second. Antonelli had passed his Mercedes teammate Russell when his car came to a stop on the track with just four laps to go. He had won five races in a row.
Lewis Hamilton says he is "incredibly grateful" to Ferrari for letting him guide the development of the car that put him back on a Grand Prix podium for the first time since 2024. Hamilton's third-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix followed a race-long battle with teammate Charles Leclerc and what Hamilton called "just a kiss" of contact between the pair. It ended a long wait for a finish in the top three for Hamilton in a full Formula 1 race since his blockbuster move from Mercedes, which took the win Sunday with the driver who replaced him at the team, Kimi Antonelli. "To see them listen and put some of those things that I'd asked for on the car I'm just incredibly grateful to them for listening on that side of things," Hamilton said. "It just makes you feel more united with everyone because you're moving in the same direction. I'm looking forward to getting back next week to (Ferrari HQ in) Maranello and seeing everybody. Big, big push." Hamilton's first year with Ferrari w
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc need to focus on driving and talk less, Ferrari executive chairman John Elkann warned Monday after the drivers failed to finish the Brazilian Grand Prix. The results dropped Ferrari down to fourth in the Formula 1 constructors' standings and left Hamilton and Leclerc still winless this season. Hamilton, who has been critical of his team all season, called the weekend a nightmare. Leclerc said he was not happy and called his car very slow after struggling in sprint qualifying. Hamilton had to retire midrace due to damage to his car, while Leclerc also went out with damage after getting caught up in a collision between Oscar Piastri and Kimi Antonelli. Elkann addressed Ferrari's troubles on the sidelines of a sponsorship announcement between Stellantis and the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. Brazil was a big disappointment but if we look at the season we can say that our mechanics are actually winning the championship with the performances that the
Lewis Hamilton drove a Ferrari Formula 1 car for the first time Wednesday and described it as "one of the best feelings of my life. Hamilton was behind the wheel of a 2023-specification Ferrari SF-23 bearing his racing number, 44, at the team's Fiorano test track and wore a new helmet design in yellow with a prominent Prancing Horse logo. The 40-year-old British driver set out for his first lap at 9:16 a.m. local time in light fog and twice waved to a crowd of around 1,000 spectators, who had gathered on a nearby bridge despite the cold and wet weather. When I started the car up and drove through that garage door, I had the biggest smile on my face, Hamilton said of his first drive in a Ferrari since joining the Italian team for the 2025 season. It reminded me of the very first time I tested a Formula 1 car, it was such an exciting and special moment, and here I am, almost 20 years later, feeling those emotions all over again. Part-way through the day, Hamilton headed over to fans
Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton said Wednesday it feels "surreal" to be entering his last season with Mercedes before joining Ferrari for 2025. Speaking as Mercedes unveiled its 2024 car at Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix, Hamilton said it has been a privilege to work with the team. Hamilton has driven for Mercedes since 2013, winning six of his seven titles with the team, but is leaving at the end of the season to join Ferrari. The move has shaken up F1 and surprised Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. "It has obviously been emotional," Hamilton said. "It's very surreal to be here, given I came here in 2013, so 11 years with the team, starting my 12th, and it is such a privilege to work with a group of people where you see the work they're doing over the winter." Mercedes was due to do a brief "shakedown" run at Silverstone on Wednesday before heading to Bahrain for three days of pre-season testing next week. The focus will be on "getting the team back t
