Jungle Raj

Our voters went with NDA fearing RJD will bring back jungle raj: Jan Suraaj

Former poll strategist Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, which failed to open its account in the Bihar assembly, on Saturday claimed that a section of its voters ended up siding with the BJP-led NDA "out of fear of return of jungle raj under the RJD". Addressing a press conference here a day after the poll results were announced, its national president Uday Singh also claimed "polarisation" took place in the Seemanchal region in the aftermath of the blast near Red Fort in Delhi, a day before the November 11 polling was held in the area. "I can say there was fear of the return of jungle raj under the RJD. Although I am not saying that there has been any jungle raj, the fear was there. Many people, who would have given us a chance, ended up voting for the NDA out of that fear," said Singh, the former BJP MP. He added, "Let me make a distinction here. Addressing a rally here, Modi said, "Leaders of Jungle Raj ridiculed the Maha Kumbh Mela and Hindu religion...People of Bihar will never forgive them." Modi made the remark without naming Prasad, who recently sparked a controversy after he called the Maha Kumbh "faaltu" (meaningless). Addressing the gathering after transferring the 19th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme here, the PM emphasised the NDA government's commitment to welfare of farmers and Bihar's development. Whose jungle raj?

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has decided to return the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a favour. On Friday, he said jungle raj, which the BJP claimed had gripped Bihar, actually prevailed under the BJP dispensation at the Centre. He accused the Narendra Modi government of diverting people's attention from its failures. He added that the government at the Centre was using "sentimental" issues - such as levelling sedition charges against Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Kanhaiya Kumar - to take people's attention away from the promises it had made before the 2014 general elections. "The way attacks are being carried out on court premises shows there is complete jungle raj there," he summed up.
