Women borrowers in India have grown at a compounded growth rate of 22 per cent over the last 5 years with majority of them from semi-urban and rural areas, who are also actively monitoring their credit scores, a report said on Monday. The report titled 'From Borrowers to Builders: Women's Role in India's Financial Growth Story', released by NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam also showed bulk of their loan was for meeting consumption demand and comparatively less for businesses. The report has been published by TransUnion CIBIL, Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) of NITI Aayog and MicroSave Consulting (MSC). "The number of women availing credit in India has increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 per cent between CY 2019 and 2024. State-owned NHPC has received shareholders nod to raise its borrowing limit to Rs 50,000 crore in its annual general meeting held on Wednesday. "All resolutions set out in the notice of 48th AGM were duly approved by shareholders with requisite majority," the company said in a regulatory filing. The proposal to increase the borrowing limit from Rs 40,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore got the 99.99 per cent votes, the filing said. The tentative debt requirement for both ongoing projects and new projects up to FY 2032-33 as per CAPEX requirements will be approx Rs 80,000 crore, which will exceed paid-up share capital, free reserves and securities premium of the company, it said.
After rising steeply for a month, the cost of market borrowing for states declined sharply on Tuesday with the weighted average cut-off falling by 11 basis points to 7.72 per cent from 7.83 per cent last week. The cost declined despite a rise in the weighted average tenor to 12 years from 11 years last week, according to an analysis by Icra Ratings. Nine states raised Rs 16,900 crore through state government securities (SGS) on Tuesday -- 10 per cent lower than the Rs 18,700 crore indicated for this week in the third quarter auction calendar. So far this year, bond sales by states are down 8 per cent over the year-ago period. The weighted average cut-off of states eased by 11 bps (basis points) to 7.72 per cent despite a rise in weighted average tenor to 12 years from 11 years and the 10-year benchmark G-sec yield remaining stable at 7.43 per cent in the auction on this Tuesday from last Tuesday.
