India is emerging as one of the major global export hubs for Japanese auto major Nissan, with the company beginning to ship the left-hand drive version of its compact SUV Magnite to new countries, according to a senior company official. The company, which has commenced shipping 10,000 units of the left-hand drive (LHD) Magnite across various global markets, is considering the introduction of hybrid and CNG vehicles and more models in India, in addition to its already announced lineup for the country, Nissan India Operations President Frank Torres told PTI in an interview. Japanese auto major Nissan's plans to turn around its Indian operations remain intact, and it is looking to increase headcount in the country despite the turbulence it is facing globally, according to a senior company official. The company, which has increased headcount at its Chennai plant by 600 to add a third shift, does not foresee steps to cut 9,000 jobs and 20 per cent production globally having an impact on India as long as it remains competitive in the market, Nissan India Operations President Frank Torres told PTI. "Nissan is betting big on India...and the plans (for India) remain intact despite this global turbulence," he said. Torres was responding to a query on whether the announcement for global job and production cuts will have an impact on Nissan's India operations. Automaker Nissan Motor India on Monday said it has inaugurated its new corporate headquarters in Gurugram. The facility will house key functions, including sales, marketing, aftersales, finance, human resources and corporate communications, among others. "This new office fuels an atmosphere of positivity, innovation and teamwork. Nissan India's new office will continue to build on our philosophy of people first and encourage our employees to foster ideas that drive innovation," Nissan India President Frank Torres said in a statement.
