Overall hiring volumes grew by 17 per cent year-on-year across key consumption-linked sectors during the August-October period, driven by heightened consumer sentiment, attractive festive promotions, and wider geographic penetration, according to a report. According to the report by workforce solutions provider Adecco India, there was a 25 per cent surge in gig and temporary jobs compared to the same period in 2024. The report, based on an analysis of internal data and external reports, noted that the weeks leading up to Dussehra and beyond saw a sharp rise in temporary staffing across retail, e-commerce, BFSI, logistics, and hospitality. Adecco had projected 2.16 lakh gig and temporary jobs in 2025, and within just three months, the industry has seen 37 per cent growth in temporary hiring and 15-20 per cent uptick in deployment of gig workers, underscoring the strength of seasonal demand. The second half of the ongoing calendar year is expected to see an addition of about 50,000 temporary jobs in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sectors ahead of the festive season, according to a report by staffing company TeamLease Services. The BFSI sector is already witnessing a remarkable surge in credit card sales, personal finance, retail insurance, driven by increased consumer spending and confidence in the economy, according to the report. "This increased activity is anticipated to generate about 50,000 temporary jobs in the second half of 2023, as BFSI firms are set to increase their workforce to meet the surge in finance products," it added. The TeamLease analysis is based on current market demand, industry job openings and the larger market or industry sentiment. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appreciated the AAP-led Punjab government for regularising 8,736 school teachers, and urged all state governments to do the same. He said the Delhi government had also brought in a Bill in the Assembly to regularise guest teachers in the national capital but the Centre did not approve it. Kejriwal said all contractual government employees would be regularised in the states where the AAP comes to power. All the states and the Centre should also do this, he added. "At a time when permanent government jobs are being reduced and more temporary employees are being hired, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regularised the services of 8,736 teachers.
