GATE 2027 registration begins from Aug 27; check revised schedule and more

GATE 2027 registration: The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) will start the online registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 this week. As per the revised schedule issued by IIT Madras earlier this month, the online application process will begin on August 27, 2026 (Thursday).
 
Once the application process begins, candidates must complete the online form on the official GATE 2027 website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in. This year, all Indian citizens applying for GATE 2027 must also apply through DigiLocker.

·        Start of GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS): August 14, 2026
 
 
·        Last date of regular online registration (without late fee): August 27, 2026
 
·        Last date of extended online registration (with late fee): September 21, 2026
 
·        Opening date of GATE 2027 application rectification: September 27, 2026
 
·        Deadline of GATE 2027 application rectification: September 30, 2026
 
·        City allotment notification: October 5, 2026
 
·        Admit card download: To be announced yet
 
·        GATE 2027 examinations: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027
 
·        Result announcement: March 19, 2027. 

GATE 2027 Eligibility

·        Minimum academic requirements: Students enrolled in any government-approved undergraduate degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, the arts, or the humanities who are in their third year or above are eligible.
 
·        Students entering B.E. through a diploma: Students in the third year or above of B.E. who entered through the second year after receiving a diploma are also qualified.
 
·        Age limit: There is no age restriction to participate in GATE 2027.
 
·        Attempt number: There is no restriction on how many times a candidate may take the GATE exam.
 
·        Selection of papers: Candidates may pick up to two GATE 2027 papers from the specified combinations. Nonetheless, it is recommended that candidates choose a paper that is relevant to the field of their degree. 

About GATE 2027

GATE 2027 aims to assess candidates’ understanding of subjects across engineering, technology, science, commerce, arts, architecture, and humanities at the undergraduate level.
 
GATE scores are also used by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment. Qualified candidates can use their scores to seek admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at MoE-supported institutions, with financial assistance available in some cases.
 
The exam is conducted jointly by IISc and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
