54 people have died and around 400 hospitalised in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia District Hospital in the last three days amid soaring temperatures, reported NDTV. Doctors have said that though there are different reasons for the deaths, severe heat could be a factor. Hospitalisations are rising because of severe heat, they said. A severe heatwave has swept UP, with most places seeing temperatures north of 40 degrees. The sudden increase in deaths and patients being admitted to hospitals with fever, breathing trouble, and other issues have overwhelmed the hospital, which has put its staff on alert.

Traffic cop dies after fainting due to severe heat in Ayodhya in UP
A 40-year-old traffic police sub-inspector died here on Sunday after fainting on duty due to severe heat, police said. Vinod Sonkar was on duty near Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya on Sunday afternoon, Circle Officer (Traffic) Pramod Yadav said. He said Sonkar fainted due to the severe heat and was rushed to the district hospital, where he died. "Unfortunately, one of our traffic sub-inspectors fell prey to the heat wave and worst weather," Yadav said
Kerala govt to oppose Karnataka's Nandini milk coming into state
The LDF government in Kerala on Sunday said it was concerned over the entry into the state of milk and milk products of popular Karnataka brand Nandini and asserted that it would strongly oppose the move. State Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Milk Cooperatives J Chinchurani said Kerala has given a complaint to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to resolve the issue.

India government direct tax collections rise 11% in April-June
The Indian government said on Sunday that its net direct tax receipts rose 11% year-on-year to 3.80 trillion Indian rupees ($46.39 billion) from April 1-June 17. Tax receipts include tax paid by corporates of 1.57 trillion rupees and personal income tax of Rs 2.22 trillion rupees, a Ministry of Finance statement said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday attacked the BJP alleging that the AC and sleeper coaches of trains under the Indian Railways are "worse" than general ones and questioned how the saffron party can run the country if it is unable to run the railway system. Kejriwal's tweet was met with a sarcastic reply by the BJP, which attacked him over the condition of the Delhi Transport Corporation buses.
