As of June 8, only 660,586 of the 2.83 million candidates enrolled through NSDC Academy had been placed, implying a placement rate of about 23 per cent. The dashboard also showed that 1.4 million candidates had been certified, meaning fewer than half of those enrolled completed certification requirements.
The figures point to a major drop-off between enrolment, certification, and employment. While the platform has attracted millions of learners since its launch, less than one in four enrolled candidates have secured placements. Even among those who completed certification, a large proportion had not translated their training into recorded employment outcomes through the academy.
The scheme has recorded 2.83 million enrolments so far. Of these, 2.4 million candidates have been trained. The number falls to 2.04 million for candidates assessed and 1.4 million for those certified.
NSDC Academy, launched in 2023, is a platform for industry-linked skilling and higher education programmes delivered through universities, colleges, and training partners as part of the broader Skill India ecosystem. It aims to integrate skill development with higher education and improve employability through job-oriented courses across a range of sectors.
The data provides a snapshot of the scale achieved by the initiative while also underscoring the challenge of converting training participation into jobs. Placement outcomes are increasingly being watched as a key measure of the effectiveness of government-backed skilling programmes, as policymakers shift focus from enrolment numbers to employment generation.
Placement outcomes have been a recurring focus of parliamentary scrutiny of government skilling initiatives, with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textile and Skill Development describing placement data as the “real barometer” for assessing the success of skill development programmes.
The figures are based on cumulative data available on the NSDC Academy dashboard as of June 8. The full database showed that several companies had enrolled multiple students, trained and certified fewer candidates, and placed zero students.
NSDC Academy offers a range of skilling and higher education programmes through universities, colleges, and training partners. Courses span areas such as digital skills, business and management, software, and emerging technologies, and are delivered through certificate, diploma, and degree-linked formats. The duration of programmes varies widely, ranging from a few weeks for short-term employability courses to several months for certification and skill development programmes.
