Who is Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu?
Born in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh in December 1987, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu comes from a political family which definitely helped in becoming a Union civil aviation minister in the BJP-led NDA govt in 2024. Naidu's father, Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu, was a veteran Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and has also served as an Union minister between 1996 and 1998. The family has had close ties with the TDP for decades.
Education
Naidu started his schooling from Srikakulam but later moved to DPS, RK Puram in New Delhi after his father shifted to the capital when the latter became a Parliamentarian. He later moved to the US for his higher education from where he attained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Long Island University.
Political Career
Naidu entered the political arena after his father's death in 2012 and became an MP from his family's pocket borough, Srikakulam in 2014. He won by garnering over 50% of the total votes from the constituency. In the process, Naidu also became the second-youngest MP in the 16th Lok Sabha.
In 2019, despite a YSRCP wave in the state, Naidu was able to hold his fort and was one of the three Lok Sabha MPs to represent the TDP in the then Parliament.
However, in 2024, Naidu improved his vote share and won the Srikakulam seat by a huge margin of over 3 lakh votes.
Becoming a three-time MP at such a young age, a loyalist of Chandrababu Naidu and BJP getting short of the majority mark, all these factors ensured that the Srikakulam MP was allocated the Ministry of Civil Aviation in June 2024.
In the past, Naidu has been a member of several Parliament's standing committees. Also, he has represented India at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in the 22nd meeting of the first committee on Disarmament.
Notably, Naidu got married in 2017 to Sri Sravya, who also comes from a political family.
