Redecorating your house? The change in season ushers in a surprising variety of new fabrics and designs from across the world...

Chocolate hues

Muslin’s new velvet collection in upholstery, soft furnishings and drapes is just the thing for a little warmth in the coming months. In stripes and jacquard textures, the collection captures the popular colours for the season: there’s chocolate with fucia, chocolate with lime green and chocolate with aqua. Plain velvet and heavy jacquard velvet are add-ons. The range is priced at Rs 695 onwards and is available at Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi and Mumbai at Muslin stores.

Luxurious textures from Germany

The German textile brand, Nya Nordiska, with its high-class decoration and upholstery fabrics for both private and project use, recently launched at DLF Emporio in New Delhi. The brand’s “Pure Perfection” collection combines fabrics in “non-colours” with the discreet tones of wood and stone, in interesting basic materials such as linen, wool and high-tech fabrics, as well as grainy structures and high-low effects. Their “Creative Concept”, meanwhile, has strong contrasts, embossed motifs and fresh, clear colours. Silks and satins in embroidery on velours and transparent fabrics form part of their “Luxury Life” collection. Nya Nordiska is also available at Maishaa India, Jagdish Stores and Muslin in Chennai, Delhi, Jaipur, Pune, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Price: Between Rs 4,000-20,000 per metre.

Trendy metallics

Address Home, with its flagship store in Mumbai, does stylised home linen for retailers such as Harrods and Bloomingdales. The new collection here draws inspiration from Moroccan and French textiles with a contemporary twist. The colours are clear and sophisticated, and the look clean and understated. Trendy metallics are used in small accents to complement the range, and textures add subtle value to each bed. Black is back, and chocolate, the all-time favorite, has been used with teal and copper. Available at Raghuvanshi Mills in Mumbai, price Rs 750 onwards.

Go contemporary

Maishaa India has widened its foray from linen to furnishings this season, and “contemporary” is the buzzword. Choose from net, organdie and organza. If you’re one for soft hues, there is lilac, grey, sage green, ivory and white embellished on the sheers too. If contemporary is not your style, then the Marco Polo range in linen and fabric is for you. Said to be inspired from the Italian explorer of Venice, forms of 13th century have been artistically rendered in the collection. While their curtains will cost Rs 1,000-12,000 per metre; sheers are priced at Rs 1,000-10,000, available in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
