The yummiest jalebis in town are also among the oldest

Very few establishments live up to their names. But the Old and Famous Jalebi Wala at the turning of Dariba Kalan in Chandni Chowk is an exception. It is old (since 1884) and famous (everyone knows about it) for its yummy, piping-hot jalebis. Kailash Chand Jain, the present proprietor of the shop, says that everyone from film stars to cricketers and politicians have savoured his jalebis.

The jalebis of Old and Famous Jalebi Wala are not the normal-sized squiggles that you find in every nook and corner. Each jalebi here weighs at least 100 gms and costs Rs 20. For one kilogram you have to pay Rs 200. Recently, the shop put up a new black and shiny board so there’s no missing the place now. Even if you do, everyone in Chandni Chowk knows where you can find the best jalebis in town.
