Vijay Tendulkar passes away

Born on January 6, 1928 in Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Tendulkar was a leading Indian playwright, movie and television writer, socialist thinker, political analyst and journalist.

Known for Hindi cinema's exemplary scripts he wrote for movies like "Ardh Satya" and Shyam Benegal's "Manthan" , Tendulkar was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his literary accomplishments by Government of India in 1984.

Over last five decades, he remained a dominent personality in Marathi literature and theatre circles. His creations such as Ghashiram Kotwal, Sakharam Binder, Shantata Court Chalu Aahe and Gidhade have ruled the minds of more than three generations in Maharashtra.

Tendulkar, also father of late actress Priya Tendulkar, is survived by two daughters Sushma and Tanuja, who were present when the author had his last breath.
