Accused seeks to represent self in Satyam scam case

One of the accused in multi-crore Satyam accounting scam today sought court's permission to argue on his own.

G Ramakrishna, who worked as vice-president (finance) in the erstwhile Satyam Computer Services (SCSL), in his application filed before the XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACCM) court, sought permission to represent himself in the case.

"I have knowledge of minute details of the processes and procedures involving the company," Ramakrishna said.

The request for arguing his own case comes prior to framing of charges by CBI in the Rs 14,000-crore accounting scam in Satyam.

Magistrate BVLN Chakravarti has posted the matter till September 3 for further hearing.

In another development, the counsel of Satyam’s former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas, urged the court to discharge his client from the case as "CBI did not show any evidence" against him.

"There is no prima-facie material and no legal proof to prove the allegations against my client. No case can be made out as per the CBI's chargesheets as the charges are groundless and there are no specific documents or evidence to prove the charges and hence the petitioner be discharged," Vadlamani’s counsel said.

After hearing Vadlamani's counsel, the matter was posted to September 6 till further orders.
