Airbus’ sourcing from India exceeded $500 million (Rs 3,350 crore) in 2015 and would grow to $2 billion (Rs 13,395 crore) by 2020, the European firm said on Monday.

This is the highest sourcing ever by any aerospace and defence original equipment maker from India, Airbus said.

The maker said it would set up assembly lines to make military transport aircraft and helicopters in India if it were given contracts.

The $500-million procurement figure represents a 15 per cent growth over 2014. “Overall, Airbus’s procurement from India has grown 16 times in the past decade. Today, every Airbus commercial aircraft being produced is partly made in India,” it said.

Airbus sources engineering and information technology services, aerostructures, parts and cabins for its civil and military aircraft from India.

“If our proposals to make the C295W military transporter in India with Tata, and military helicopters with Mahindra materialise, we will help set up system integration and assembly lines, which will spawn an Indian defence supplier base second to none,” said Pierre de Bausset, president and managing director, Airbus Group India.
