Having forayed into compact fluorescent lights (CFL) for residential purposes sometime back, Morbi-based Ajanta is set to introduce CFL lamp for street lighting within three months.

"Domestic CFL lighting systems market is moving good in India but street lighting still uses the conventional halogen lamps. However, we believe there's an immense scope in CFL street or public lighting. Which is why soon Ajanta will be launching new public CFL lighting systems which can be use at street light, mall, parking places and multi flooring towers, among others," said Jaysukh Patel, managing director, Ajanta Group.

According to Patel, CFL public lighting systems can replace mercury or halogen lamps. "Production of CFL lamps for public lighting will begin within three months and also be launched at the same period. The company has already started marketing about the product while we are in talks with several companies for contract," said Patel.

The company is also exploring opportunities of providing such CFL products to the state government. At Ajanta, the company manufactures currently 100,000 pieces per day CFL lamps for domestic purposes.

It may be mentioned here that Ajanta Group, which is also into electric bikes manufacturing, also had plans to make electric cars when Tata Motors announced its Nano car. Ajanta even imported electric car model from China but it shelved its electric car project in 2008.

Morbi-based Ajanta Group has Rs 1000 crore turnover and is a well established player in the field of wall clocks. Later on the group diversified into auto, CFL lamp and vitrified tiles.
