Amway registers 35% growth in state

Amway India has registered 35 per cent growth in Odisha in first six months of the current fiscal (Amway India’s fiscal year is from January to December) compared to the same period of the previous year.

“The growth in the state has been decent during the period. In Odisha, the company’s turnover was Rs 26.5 crore compared to Rs 19.6 crore in 2011”, said Diptarag Bhattacharjee, Vice President-East, Amway India at a press conference.

The business turnover in Odisha was recorded at Rs 44.3 crore in 2011 compared to Rs 32.8 crore in 2010. In the country, the company has set a target of Rs 2500 crore business for 2012 which is 19 percent more than Rs 2130 crore turnover achieved in 2011.

Bhattacharjee exuded confidence that Odisha by 2013 will be among top 10 states in terms of turnover. Presently, the state’s turnover accounts for 12 to 13 percent of the east zone turnover and contributes two-three per cent to the national pie.

The region’s contribution to the total turnover was recorded at Rs 385 crore in 2011, compared to Rs 289 crores clocked in 2010.

The direct selling FMCG company has about 45000 distributors in the state. In November, the company will launch commercials on beauty categories.

Amway India operates with five offices in the state- Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Jeypore, Balasore, Rourkela. “As part of our increased consumer access strategy we are considering to refurbish our offices in Balasore and Berhampur”, he added.

On the selection of location for setting up a manufacturing unit for which the company has earmarked Rs 400 crores, he ruled out the possibility of setting up the unit in the eastern or northern region.

He said, the company has received offers from four states but decline to divulge the names.

The company also launched two products in the Nutrilite bracket in Odisha namely - Saw Palmetto with Nettle Root (for maintaining prostrate health) and Nutrilite Multi -carotene (a powerful antioxidant for maintaining healthy skin and immunity) targeted at the aging population.
