Diversified business group, Videocon Industries today said it has been approached by the Commonwealth Games (CWG) organising committee to sponsor the event, a proposal the company is willing to entertain.
"They (CWG officials) have approached us to become one of the sponsors of the event and we are also interested in the same," Videocon Industries Chairman Venugopal Dhoot told PTI.
He said a decision to sponsor the controversial games to be held on October 3-14 will be taken by the company's board by next week.
"I personally want Videocon to sponsor CWG as it is a matter of national pride, however, the decision will be taken by the Board by August 26," Dhoot said.
Asked how about details, he said: "The nature and value of the sponsorship will be worked by the board by next week."
The development comes at a time when the crisis-ridden CWG received a jolt with two power PSUs -- NTPC and PowerGrid, deciding to hold back their Rs 40 crore sponsorship money out of a combined committed sum of Rs 60 crore for the event.
Dhoot said Videocon has already decided to advertise during the games on the official broadcaster Doordarshan.
"We will spend at least Rs 5 crore on advertisements during the games on all our brands," Dhoot added.
