Railway Board has placed a Developmental Contract on BEML Limited for design, manufacturing, supply and commissioning of two rakes consisting of 18 units of stainless steel AC EMU coaches. The contract which is valued at Rs 31 crore, will be delivered within the next two years.
On completion of the supply of these two rakes, there is a provision to enhance the quantity up to six rakes (totaling 54 nos of stainless steel AC EMU coaches). This would take the total contract value to the tune of Rs 92 crore.
This is the first time in India that BEML has designed and developed stainless steel AC EMU coaches.
