Microsoft has appointed Bhaskar Pramanik as the chairman for Microsoft India. Pramanik will report to Jean-Philippe Courtois, President of Microsoft International.

Last month, Ravi Venkatesan, who was earlier the chairman and corporate vice president of Microsoft India had announced to quit the company, after serving the company for seven years.

“Bhaskar comes to Microsoft with a strong reputation as a business leader and organisation builder. His deep experience and understanding of the Indian IT industry will be critical to continuing to build our leadership in India,” said Courtois in a statement.

Earlier this month, Pramanik who was earlier the MD of Oracle India had resigned from the company to pursue opportunities outside the company. Prior to Oracle, Pramanik, a graduate from IIT-Kanpur, worked for Sun Microsystems for 13 years as MD in India. Subsequently, he moved to Sun’s global headquarters in the US as Global Vice President, Commercial Systems.

“I look forward to partnering with the business leaders and the entire Microsoft team to grow our business in India and enable the success of all our stakeholders,” said Pramanik.

As Chairman, Pramanik will oversee Microsoft’s sales, marketing and services subsidiary, provide overall leadership on all Microsoft assets in India, said the company.

Microsoft has over 5,300 employees in India located in two campuses and thirteen offices across the country. India is also the largest employee base for Microsoft outside of the US.
