Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has bagged a Rs 42 crore contract from Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd to set up an eco-friendly grid-interactive solar plant of 3 Mw capacity, on a turnkey basis in the state.

The contract calls for setting up a solar photovoltaic power plant at Yapalaniddi Village in Raichur district in North Karnataka, a company statement said. BHEL will be responsible for engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant, apart from operation and maintenance for three years thereafter.

The plant is scheduled to be completed in eight months time. It has recently commissioned two grid-interactive solar power plants of 100 kw each in Lakshadweep.

With this, the public sector major has commissioned a total of 11 solar plants in Lakshadweep, adding over 1 Mw of solar power to the power generating capacity of the coral islands.

BHEL is one of the few players in the field of solar photovoltaics and SPV power plants in India. The SPV modules are manufactured at its ultra-modern manufacturing facility at Bangalore.
