Robert Bosch India Limited (RBIL), a subsidiary of the Bosch Group of Germany, inaugurated its development centre in Coimbatore today.
 
The company, a global major in automotive, industrial and building technology, has set up the development centre as part of its de-risking strategy.
 
The facility with a built up area of 10,857 sq metre is situated on the KG Information Systems Limited (KGISL) campus at Saravanampatti village near here.
 
Addressing a press conference, Friedhelm Pickhard, managing director, RBIL, said that the centre, which would focus mainly on automotive applications and industrial automation, would provide employment to around 2,500 people in a couple of years.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dayanidhi Maran, union minister for IT and communications, said that the Indian software industry provided employment for around 13 crore people in 2005 "� 06 as against a mere 2.84 lakh in 1999-2000.
 
India was likely to become a major R&D hub for most of the global IT companies such as Microsoft, Intel, and Cisco, among others, which were expanding their operations in the country.
