CAB, KKR battling FIR(e) for 'violating' norms

Fire Services of West Bengal has filed a first information report (FIR) against Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for allegedly defying fire service regulations in a temporary gallery at the Eden Gardens during an IPL match.

"CAB has shown little respect for government rules and regulations during yesterday's IPL match at the Eden Gardens where the temporary gallery did not have the sanction of Fire Services department," said West Bengal fire services minister Pratim Chatterjee.

The fire services department has alleged that the exit and entry points of the temporary structure do not adhere to fire safety norms. “A lot of mishaps have happened in the recent years and everytime the fire services department is blamed. So, this time we want to make sure that the fire services department is not pulled up for no fault of our own,” added Chatterjee.

Chatterjee also threatened to lodge an FIR against CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya for the alleged violation of norms. The Public Works Department (PWD) had asked for some modifications to the temporary gallery to obtain a no-objection certificate. The gallery in between the under-construction Block B and the Club House is made of wood.

PWD had allowed KKR to use the temporary seating arrangements after Shah Rukh Khan gave a written undertaking stating that any untoward incident would be KKR's responsibility.
