Coal India Ltd has said that in order to meet the production target of 464 MT in the current fiscal ending March 31, the state-owned firm will have to clock 10% growth in the ongoing quarter.
"During January 2013, CIL produced 46.42 million tonne of coal as compared to 44.6 million tonnes in January 2012, marking thereby a growth of about 4%," an official statement said.
In the first 10 months of 2012-13, CIL's coal production went up to 355.3 MT, as against 335.8 MT in the same period of last financial year, it said.
Coal supply by CIL from April-January was at 380 MT, from over 351 MT in the same period in FY12, up 8%.
Earlier, CIL had said that to meet the coal offtake target of 470 MT the required growth would be 11%.
The government also stated that CIL was fully geared up to meet its annual target of coal supplies this fiscal.
CIL had missed the production target during the previous fiscal as it produced 435.84 MT, as against the revised target of 447 MT.
