Carborundum Universal Ltd (Cumi), a leader in the abrasives and ceramics market and part of the Rs 6,250 crore ($1.5 billion) Murugappa group, announced the launch of "Cumi World" in Ludhiana yesterday.

This unique outlet is a training academy and a retail store aimed at establishing contact with next generation end users like carpenters, grinders, polishers etc to educate them about abrasives and the best practices involved in using them. "Cumi World is a result of our exploring newer avenues to evolve our distribution network and improving our proximity to the end-user," said Managing Director K Srinivasan.

"In India, our first abrasives experience centre has been launched in Ludhiana, the industrial hub of northern India. This year, we plan to open 6 more Cumi Worlds in other industrial zones across the country including Pune, Kolkata and Kanpur", he added.

Equipped with machinery, testing equipment and a seasoned trainer, Cumi World organises educative sessions on various uses of abrasives, methodology on effective utilisation and live product demonstrations.
