DataWind, the manufacturer of tablets under the Akash brand, has claimed market leadership with 34.2% of all tablets sold in India during the first quarter of 2016.

Citing CMR's recent report, the Canada-based technology company, also claimed it was well ahead of Samsung (second place), which sold 20.9% of all tablets in India.

According to the CMR study, DataWind holds 74.4% market share in the sub-Rs 5,000 tablet segment, which is the largest and fastest-growing segment of the market, having increased to 46% of the overall tablet market in India.

IDC's recent study of the Indian tablet market also confirmed DataWind's leadership position. Samsung is followed by Lenovo in third place, the company stated.
