Delhi ranks number one among cities engaged in carrying out online commercial activities, followed by the country's financial capital Mumbai and Jaipur, a study by eCommerce website eBay India today said.
According to the eBay.In 2010 census, the website witnessed the maximum number of transactions from Delhi, followed by Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Bangalore.
"The census, now in its third edition, is a reflection of how people shop online. While Delhi remains the top eCommerce hub, people from smaller towns have also started transacting on the website, showing that broadband penetration is increasing and that people are becoming more comfortable shopping online," eBay India Country Manager Ambareesh Murthy told reporters here.
While technology products contributed about 48 per cent transactions in the country, lifestyle category comprised 34 per cent of the sales on the website, he added.
The census covers transaction data from July 2009-June 30, 2010.
Maharashtra ranked number one among states, followed by Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, the report said.
According to the data, Indians were also selling their products like stamps, herbal skincare, designer sarees and ethnic jewellery on the website to about 189 nations.
