The academy will be run by Bangalore-based entity Raxa Security Services, set up by GMR to provide security services to business and industrial establishments.
Security services business is valued at Rs 4500 crore in India and unorganised sector accounts 65 per cent of the business. It is estimated that organised sector is estimated to grow at 20-25 per cent.
Launching the academy, G M Rao, chairman of GMR said: "Raxa Security Services will give preference to local villagers for employment opportunities. The group's corporate social responsibility arm, GMR Varalakshmi Foundation will also undertake identified welfare projects in the surrounding villages."
The academy has the capacity to train 200 recruits.
