HCL Infosystems, which follows a May to June financial year, for the financial year ended June 30, 2004 recorded a 90 per cent increase in its turnover to $980 million.
The company has two divisions "" computer systems business and automation and telecommunication. Out of the total turnover, the turnover of the computer systems business was $320 million and the office automation and telecommunication division's turnover was $660 million.
Addressing a press conference here, Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and chief executive officer of HCL Infosystems Limited, said, "We believe that with new products and offers that the company has launched we would be able to meet our targets."
Chowdhry said the company currently has a market share of around 14 per cent out of the 3.2 million computers sold annually in the country.
HCL Infosystems on Thursday launched the RP2 system, a technology that ensures that there is uninterrupted power supply, on the entire range of HCL desktop computers. Chowdhry said that the RP2 system was conceived at HCL Labs in Pondicherry and provides backup power for eight hours.
"The new technology will be especially useful in the rural parts of the country where the power supply is not regular and is available only for a limited time," he said.
The RP2 system is available in a bundle with all HCL desktop computers and comes with a one-year warranty. According to Chowdhry, the base model a personal computer with the new technology would cost around Rs 19,000. The company also proposes to make this new technology available to its existing customers.
Chowdhry said that if information technology is harnessed properly it would contribute around 1.5 to 2 per cent to the gross domestic product. "This has not happened till now as the internet penetration in the rural areas has been very low and it is important to increase the internet penetration in rural areas," he said.
The company along with the Union Bank of India recently entered into a partnership wherein a person can get a personal computer at an EMI of Rs 499 per month. This offer is available on an Ezeebee with Pentium 4 and Intel's Hyper Threading Technology.
HCL Infosystems recently also broke the Rs 15,000 price barrier by introducing the Ezeebee. HCL Ezeebee has been created specifically to cater to the needs of first time Home PC buyer.
