Continued efforts to boost sales in rural areas helped Hero Honda Motors (HHML), India's largest maker of two-wheeler to post a growth of 29.45 per cent in sales at 370,575 units during April. The company had sold 286,252 units in the same month a year ago.

The growth has been come at a time when the industry is still reeling under external pressures like lack of finance availability and steep interest rates.

The company has been making steady in-roads into the rural market and semi-rural market over the course of last many months even as its share from the urban market has also improved.

Anil Dua, Senior Vice President, (Marketing and Sales), Hero Honda Motors said, "Our continuing sales performance once again underscores the success of our business model. We continue to lead the unit volume growth in the industry despite the adverse and challenging environment."

"This growth has been driven by our customer-focused approach and our strong brands. We are hopeful of continuing on this growth trajectory in the coming months", he further added.

The company is spending Rs 350 crore this financial year for ramping up production at its Haridwar plant in Uttarakhand to over a million units annually as well as for modernising its Daruhera and Gurgaon plants.

HHML will also be rolling out new and refurbished bikes in the next few months. The company recently stated that it plans to launch 8-9 bikes, which will be a combination of both upgrades and new bikes this financial year.
