Honda targets sale of 16 lakh two-wheelers by March 2011

Two-wheeler-maker Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, is targetting a sale of 16 lakh units by end-this fiscal as against 12.7 lakh units last year, a senior company official said.

"We are doing well in both the motor-cycle and scooter segments. We target to sell 16 lakh units of two-wheelers by March 2011," Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India's Operating Head (Sales and Marketing) Naresh Kumar Rattan told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

"Going forward, we expect a double-digit growth in our motor-cycle and scooter segments," he said.

The company plans to export one lakh motor-cycles and scooters this year as against 75,000 units last year.

"We aim to export close to one lakh motor-cycles and scooters this year," he said, adding "as at end-November, we have exported 61,000 units."

The company plans to launch its CBR-250R sports bike in the country next year which is expected to be priced at Rs 1,50,000. "We plan to launch our CBR-250R sports bike in April next year," he said.

The company also plans to launch some new models next year, he said, without, however, revealing any details. It plans to set up a new plant in Rajasthan at an investment Rs 500 crore which will be operational by December next year.

"We are investing Rs 500 crore to set up a new plant in Rajasthan. Its initial capacity will be around six lakh units per annum," he said.

The company's Haryana facility has an annual capacity of 16 lakh units per year.
