To address the issues of e-waste and information technology (IT) security in Chandigarh, International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation, in association with the Chandigarh-based Punjab Engineering College (PEC) University of Technology, is to work together on two different projects. The first project involves conducting a gap analysis of Chandigarh’s e-waste disposal while the second project involves creating the framework document and recommendations for information security best practices that can be implemented for most of the IT infrastructure in the city.
Speaking to Business Standard, Mamtha Sharma, IBM India/South Asia, manager - corporate citizenship & community affairs, said, "As a part of the corporate service corps (CSC) programme, our team, in association with PEC University of Technology will help develop technology solutions aimed at efficient e-waste management. In the first project, IBM experts would visit the e–disposal sites and liaise with the stakeholders in Chandigarh, including government and civil society, to create a strategy and project plan for e–waste disposal."
About the second project, she said, "It will focus on creating the framework document and recommendations for Information Security best practices which can be implemented to most of the IT infrastructure of the city.
