India has emerged as the third most active investor in the UK, overtaking France to reach this new position.
According to the Inward Investment report published by UK Trade and Investment, apart from moving one notch higher than the last year, India has also become the third-largest news jobs creator in the UK. While number of new projects invested in the UK by Indian businesses increased marginally from 92 to 97, the number of new jobs created by 63 per cent to 6,096. With this India has also emerged as the second-largest new jobs creator in the UK in 2010.
In all 1,434 new projects were initiated in the UK last year creating 94,598 new jobs during the year. The reported said, “Among the high growth markets, India and China are still the two principal sources of inward investment by project numbers. The rest of the top 12 source countries are mainly the major developed economies, highlighting their continued importance to the UK.”

But, China is the eighth most active investor, investing in half the number of new projects and creating only fifth the number new jobs investments from India have managed. The total number of new projects fell from 1,619 in 2009 but new jobs created nearly doubled to 94,598 from 53,358 in 2009. “Compared to the previous year, associated jobs are up. Project numbers are down – even so, this is one of the highest levels of FDI projects ever recorded in the UK,” the report said.
