US-based InterfaceFLOR, as part of its expansion plans, has opened a regional office in Chennai. The company is also planning to set up a manufacturing unit in India. InterfaceFLOR manufactures carpet tiles for corporates.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Thursday, Raj Menon, country manager, India, said the demand for carpets was increasing in South, especially in Chennai and Coimbatore, thanks to the IT/ITeS industry.

The company has seven manufacturing plants in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and in Thailand.

"We will soon set up a manufacturing facility in India to cater to the domestic market," Menon said. He declined to give a time frame in this regard.

InterfaceFLOR commenced business in India in 2001.

In the last seven years, it had sold more than 1.5 million square metres of carpet tiles to over 200 corporates.

The company expects a 30 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in the coming years.

The total turnover of the company last year was $1.2 billion, of which India accounted for 2-3 per cent, Menon said.
