The nationalised Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) today opened its new regional office Puducherry today.
Speaking on the occasion, S A Bhat, Chairman and Managing Director of IOB asked agricultural officers and staff attached to the agriculture wing of the bank to coordinate with farmers to generate awareness among them the relevance of 'system of rice intensification' to boost rice production.
He also handed over loans to beneficiaries under various schemes.
Bhat said the SRI system was very effective as the yield per hectare would be 6.7 ton as against two ton getting under conventional cultivation.
