According to Civil Aviation Ministry figures, Jet Airways garnered a market share of 21.1 per cent, compared with Air India's 15.4 per cent in the April-June period. During the corresponding period last year, Jet had a market share of 21.9 per cent, while Air India had 21 per cent.
Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher increased its share to 14.3 per cent, compared to 12 per cent in the year ago period.
However, its sister carrier Air Deccan dropped its market share to 13.5 per cent during the second quarter from 18.1 per cent in the same period last year.
Low-cost carrier SpiceJet, subject of stake sale speculation recently, increased its domestic market share to 10.5 per cent from 8.3 per cent last year.
Another budget airline, IndiGo increased its market share to 11.7 per cent during the second trimester this year, against 6.7 per cent in the same period a year ago.
During the April-June period, Jet Airways carried a total of 24.28 lakh passengers, against Air India's 17.71 lakh. Kingfisher flew 16.52 lakh passengers, while Deccan carried a total of 15.54 passengers. A total of 13.50 lakh passengers flew by Indigo compared to 11.52 lakh last year.
