Government of Jharkhand has partnered with the country's fifth largest IT services firm Tech Mahindra to promote technology adoption in the state by building industry-academia ecosystem and generate employment through skill development.

The strategic partnership that aims to help the state undertake its digital journey will promote digital literacy and skill development by collaborating with industry associations such as Nasscom Foundation.

To build a conducive ecosystem for digital transformation of the state, Tech Mahindra will build industry-academia collaboration by supporting local universities and technical institutions in areas like robotics, process management, cloud computing and software development cycle among others.

The company said it is exploring the idea of setting up of a BPO centre in Jharkhand, which can provide various citizen centric services to the citizen apart from serving other clients.

Over the next five years, the state aims to provide skill development programs to over 20,00,000 people.

"State  Government of Jharkhand is very happy to ink strategic MoU with global giant Tech Mahindra under its Digital Jharkhand Programs to promote IT/ITeS sector, Start up, Incubation and skill development," said Raghubar Das, Chief Minister, Jharkhand. "Tech Mahindra's proposal to state is perfectly aligned to state's IT/ITeS, ESDM, BPO & Start Up policies."

Tech Mahindra, which has been sharpening its focus on government contracts to get a piece of Digital India, works closely with many government bodies, both at the state and the Central levels, offering solutions in areas like Irrigation, Health Unique Identification, Police, Cyber Security and Emergency Response System and skill development among others.

"We believe that technology is going to significantly impact the governance process, especially the way governments interact with the citizens, and also creating skilled and digitally literate workforce. Our partnership with Jharkhand is a step in this direction," said Jagdish Mitra, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, and Head of Growth Factories at Tech Mahindra.
